Recognizing the importance of this source of energy for the future, The ONHYM has defined a strategy for the recovery of oil shale in particular for the production of hydrocarbons and electricity. It is based on the implementation of different but complementary actions, structured in four main axis :
1- Adopt a legal and tax framework :
The oil is governed by the Mining Code (Decree of 9 Rajeb 1370, 16 April 1951). To better promote this national resource that requires very high investment, the Moroccan government has decided to develop a law specific to the activities of oil shale in particular those relating to the production of hydrocarbons.
In this perspective, ONHYM is underway to develop a specific code for the oil shale.
2- Promote and develop Partnership :
Regarded as a major strategic importance, the ONHYM making considerable efforts to promote this resource to the national energy companies with technologies or confirmed international oil companies.
3- Explore Promising areas :
Carry out exploration work to assess and confirm the potential and quality of oil shale in different areas of the country identified as potentially friendly (apart from those of Timahdit and Tarfaya) but not yet explored.
This axis is seen through a prospective analysis of the actions to be undertaken to explore the region of Tangier and the Rif area, the basin of Ait El Oufella Kbab the Haouz Tadla Basin, Essaouira Basin, Boudenib Basin, the basin of Ouarzazate, Souss Basin and the South basin. These areas have been booking for the ONHYM.
The exploration program cannot be successful if not accompanied by physical and chemical characterization through analysis of the various oil shale prospects. Thus ONHYM provides as part of its strategic policy to establish a laboratory and to acquire the equipment and human resources needed.
4- Develop National competences :
Being a strategic future resource for our country, it is essential to develop national expertise. In addition to recruit pointed profiles in various disciplines and their training, the development of this expertise also involves cooperation between different agencies in the light of the many possibilities of use of oil shale.
