The ONHYM is the Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines - the National Bureau of Petroleum and Mines - of Morocco. It is an independent financially autonomous public institution.
ONHYM operations are supervised by the state to ensure compliance with the Act of Parliament with which it was created, especially with regard to its tasks and functions, and to ensure application of the law (Law 33-01) and regulations relating to public institutions in general.
ONHYM is also subject to financial control by the state, as applicable to public institutions.

HIGHLIGHTS IN 2008
Hydrocarbons
- Acquisition of 2431, 5 km of 2D seismic data, 486 sq km of 3D seismic data, 58 stations of ADD-HR, and 64 351 km of airborne gravimetric and magnetometric surveys and 2578 stations of land gravimetric surveys ;
- Drilling of 4 wells one of which is offshore ; • Nomination of ONHYM as manager of the royalty for the transit of Algerian gas via the Moroccan territory ;
- Signature of two new Petroleum Agreements and three Reconnaissance Contracts for hydrocarbon exploration and production ;
- Conclusion of two memoranda of understanding (MoU) and a confidentiality agreement for the development of oil shale potential
- Signature of a cooperation and data exchange agreement ;
- Signature of a grant agreement for the financing of a study project for data management.
Mines
- Launching of an international bid for the cession of Azouggar N’tilili polymetallic-gold deposit in Tan Tan province ;
- Confirmation of the importance of Glibat Lafhouda and Twihinat prospects in Fe, Nb, Ta, U and light rare earth (Awserd province) ;
- Completion of the geochemical survey subcontracted run in Awserd region and start of first control works of circumscribed anomalies ;
- Carrying on of feasibility study on Achemmach deposit (tin in El Hajeb province) in partnership with Kasbah Resources (Australia) ;
- Conclusion of two new mining draft agreements, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and two cession contracts.;
