At ONHYM, applied mining exploration geochemistry studies the morpho-climatic environment of Morocco, its geological context and the deposit types to be targeted. The development of these methods is linked to multi-disciplinary analytical techniques and the use of information technology.

Expertise was acquired by the geochemical team through internal research and in collaboration with international partners. Many methods are integrated during the same campaign.

ONHYM offers great expertise in executing a geochemical campaign for the exploration of precious and base metals in varied geological contexts.

  • Methods:

GEOCHIMIE-01

Stream: A qualitative exploration technique, that detects heavy minerals susceptible to alteration and to transport such as gold, wolframite-cassiterite, etc. This method is very efficient in the search for gold in dry climates. The stream-sediment is the metallic elements carried in chemical form and trapped by the iron and manganese hydroxides.

Soil geochemistry: Applied in areas covered by residual soil, and adapted to Morocco due to the rarity of residual soil, it is used as a consequence of the stream campaign or the stream-sediment.

Rock geochemistry: This is the last word of a geochemical program that determines the primary anomaly of the source rock. Also used for the geochemical characterization of hydrothermal alterations.

Mercurometry: Based on the measure of mercury emanations in the form of gas. Used successfully in Morocco in the search for silver mineralization like Imiter.

Hydro-geochemistry: In the course of their circulation through mineralized structures or layers, water is loaded with metallic elements. Consequently, the analysis of source or well water reveals cross-mineralization.

BLEG (Bulk Leach Extractable Gold): is a geochemical exploration method for regional or detail exploration for precious metals especially gold. It has been tested and applied successfully in different geological and climatic settings. It is used to detect the fine gold in the clay and silt fraction of streams. The BLEG has very good reproducibility in results and a very low detection limit.

 

GEOCHIMIE-02Geochemical data interpretation is integrated with the geological context through a Geographical Information System (GIS, using ESRI ArcInfo software)
