In parallel with international testing, ONHYM (formerly ONAREP) developed and tested its own pyrolysis pilot plant called T3 (from the initials of the major deposits at Timahdit, Tarfaya and Tangier). The pilot unit was built between June 1983 and November 1984 at Timahdit with a World Bank loan. It was started and tested empty between January and March 1985, and operated at load between April 1985 and October 1986. The capacity of the pilot unit is 80 tons of oil shale per day. 2,500 tons of oil shale have been tested by this method which gave an average yield of 70% compared with the Fisher test.
