The 3000 km Atlantic coastline from the shore of Tangiers to that of Lagwira is part of the oldest passive continental margin of the terrestrial globe, which corresponds to a passive margin segment between a continental domain to the east and an oceanic domain to the west.

Seismic data

The total seismic database acquired in this margin, until the end of December 2018, is represented by 163 366 km of 2D seismic data and 70 242 km² of 3D seismic data.

Well Data

The Moroccan Atlantic coast is under explored by drilling. At the end of December 2018, only 42 wells were spudded targeting various objectives (deep to ultra-deep). Past and recent drilling activity in Tangier, Boujdour, Tarfaya and Sidi Ifni offshore has revealed biogenic and natural gas accumulations and heavy oil and light oil shows. The presence of oil and gas shows and intervals of high quality source rocks have been encountered almost everywhere along the Moroccan Atlantic margin.
