The Kingdom of Morocco is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy. The King is the head of the State. The Chief of government is appointed by the King. Legislative power is vested in a bicameral system with two chambers: The Assembly of Representatives elected for a 5 year term, and the Assembly of Councillors serving a 9 year term with one-third of its seats up for election every 3 years.
Chariot Oil & Gas Limited (AIM: CHAR) is an Atlantic margins focused oil and gas company which has been active in exploration in offshore Morocco since 2012. In the intervening period we have secured exploration permits and participated in seismic acquisition, processing, seabed coring and in deepwater drilling with our partner ONHYM.
ONHYM has several very important roles in facilitating E&P activity in Morocco– initially as holder of all relevant data to assist companies to select areas of interest and then as the point of contact with the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Environment and other Ministries and Agencies in securing licences to undertake operations. On award, they then participate as a partner in those licences which allows investing companies the benefit of the knowledge, experience and expertise that ONHYM has built from decades of participation across the sector.
In Chariot, we recognise the important contribution made by ONHYM and we have directly benefitted from combining the international experience we bring with the local knowledge that resides with the well trained and highly motivated ONHYM staff. ONHYM deal in an open, transparent manner and it is a pleasure working with such a professional organisation.
ONHYM are an invaluable partner to SDX Energy and I am very grateful for their support in providing technical and governmental assistance as well as always being there for guidance and help when needed, even in the middle of the night. ONHYM have been an integral part in helping SDX succeed and grow in Morocco. With ONHYM’s support, we have been able to help fundamentally change many industries in Morocco, providing them with clean energy at lower costs. We look forward to continuing a long and prosperous partnership with ONHYM
In 2016 Eni entered the Rabat Deep Offshore License, becoming operator on a hi-risk frontier play, the Jurassic carbonates, totally un-explored in the northern Moroccan offshore. The Saipem 12000 drillship spudded the Rabat Deep 1 well (RSD-1) on 14 March 2018, in 1100 m water depth. The final TD of 3180 m, within the Jurassic carbonates, was reached on 26 April 2018. The entire operation, for a total of 57 days, was carried out safely, with no accidents nor injuries of any kind. The activity was performed in full compliance with Moroccan laws and regulations, following the highest industry standards and best practices. The success of the entire operation was possible thanks also to the strong cooperation and support received by ONHYM, during all the phases of the project, from the negotiations of the agreements up to the conclusion of the technical activities. The effective support provided by ONHYM in dealing with the Local Authorities involved was very important to smooth and to solve all the potential problems that could have delayed the operations and reduced our efficiency. As MD of Eni Maroc, I would like to express my gratitude to all the people working with ONHYM, a partner technically very competent and really committed to pursue the development of oil & gas activities in the Country.
